School Standards
The curriculum of the Lutheran School of Lexington is aligned with the requirements of the State of KY, the guidelines of the IN-KY District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and is accredited under the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) program. We follow 8 learning domains as outlined by KY and IN early childhood standards and benchmarks.
School History
The Lutheran School of Lexington has been teaching students since 2007. It was formed by the local LCMS Lutheran Churches to meet the need for a Grace-centered approach to education in Lexington. The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod has a strong history of operating schools. Through early childhood programs, elementary schools and high schools, the congregations of the LCMS are dedicated to providing a solid Lutheran Christian education for our children by operating the largest Protestant parochial school system in America.
The LSL's supporting congregation is Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lexington KY.
Mission Statement
The Lutheran School of Lexington's purpose is to provide a quality Christian Education through the teaching of a complete core-curriculum through play-centered activities and nurturing God's children in the Christian Faith.
Philosophy
The Lutheran School of Lexington encourages cognitive learning through hands-on interactive and teacher guided lessons that also embrace the spiritual and emotional development of the students by teaching through love, respect, diversity and kindness. The education is structured to facilitate both cognitive and social problem solving and creative thinking to develop the student to be an independent learner who can work in a group environment. The curriculum incorporates standards from 8 learning domains: Religion, Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Creative Arts, Physical Health, and Social Emotional. The teachers facilitate all the above through play-centered programming that includes both fine and gross motor skills as well as an emphasis on good nutrition and physical fitness. The school's goal is to demonstrate and teach the truth about God's love and to encourage our students' to learn, live and love as a response to Jesus’ Saving Grace.

We strive to:
- Bring each child to know and love his Savior, Jesus Christ, through an atmosphere of Christian serving, love, and faith-building.
- Provide a total education for God's children by meeting their spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and social needs.
- Maintain close contact with parents/guardian in respect to student progress and behavior.
- Encourage parents/guardians to develop a closer relationship in their families with their Lord and Savior.
- Provide a well trained faculty and staff that teach all basic curriculum areas while maintaining high standards of student achievement, and superior quality in instruction.
- Encourage students to become creative and innovative problem-solvers in preparing them to deal with everyday life.
- We are committed to helping each child of God develop their God-given abilities through a quality Christian education in a loving, Christ-like environment, and to share God's Good News of salvation with those whom we serve.

Faith
The Lutheran School of Lexington follows the guidelines of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS).
Lutheranism had its beginnings in 1517, when Martin Luther, a doctor of theology and a monk in the Roman Catholic church, publicly called for the correction of errors in the medieval church. Luther was a pastor, professor, author, composer of hymns, and a reformer. He sought to return the Church back to the Bible as the sole source of its teaching. Only when the leaders of the Church would not listen and removed him from the church, did he form a separate group that was first known as "Protestants" and then known as "Lutherans." Luther is respected for the changes he promoted, but he is not idolized or worshipped.
Lutherans stress:
- Justification by faith (that we are forgiven for our sins and given a relationship with God only by the faith God gives).
- That a person is not to live according to a formula of do’s and don’ts, but in the freedom of Christian love.
- The two basic teachings of the Bible are the Gospel (that which shows us our Savior and what He has done for us) and the Law (that which shows our sin and our need for repentance).
- Belief in all that Jesus Christ has done for us.
- Faith in Jesus Christ: a relationship with God our Father, which is strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
- Repentance: acknowledging sinfulness and need for a Savior.
- Seeking/knowing the Lord through the teachings of the Bible and living a life of love through Jesus Christ.
